Dear Children’s Ministries Family,

I am SO excited to share with you our new vision for our Memory Verse Program here at Allegheny Center Alliance Church! As I prayed about the memory verses this year and sought input from our Children’s Ministries team, God was very clear that we need to change the culture of memory work for our grade school aged children.

I have been working through the book Soul Care by Dr. Rob Reimer and it has been life-changing for me personally. In the book he teaches the principle of a healthy soul. And key to a healthy soul is knowing your identity in Christ. BINGO - that was it!

Over the years, I have ministered to many of our youth who have walked away from their faith and are searching for their identity. It is heartbreaking. We all know that what we believe about ourselves influences our choices. I firmly believe that we need to equip our children with the word of God in their hearts, so they will be able to combat the lies in this world and what Satan is telling them! The Children’s Ministries department is honored to come alongside parents and families as we endeavor to achieve this goal.

We have chosen 8 specific verses from Ephesians 1, to begin our new Memory Verse Program because it captures a great foundation of our identity in Christ. We are calling this year’s program “Ephesian Adventure.” I hope you will all join us as we indeed embark on this great adventure of learning our identity - in Christ.

As you walk around in Children’s Ministries you will notice mirrors with these verses written on them. The kids will be able to read the verses and see their image at the same time. My hope is this will help solidify their identity and know how precious they are in Christ. They will learn that they are chosen, marked with a seal, adopted into the family of God, and loved!

In addition, we have daily devotions written specifically for Ephesians 1 available at the Information Center. We need our kids to learn how to be in the Word daily and spend time with Jesus. We will provide teachers and parents with additional reminders and helps throughout the year. The verse emphasis will change monthly, but the goal here is not to merely memorize or even cram the words in a short time but to plant the Word of God deeply into each and every heart!

Can you imagine what a child, who knows who they are in Jesus and whose foundation is unshakeable, can do in the kingdom? I am excited, and I am praying that each of you will join us this year on the Ephesians Adventure!

P.S. May will remain the month to recite verses and if a student can recite all 8 verses they will be awarded a medal, presented in front of the congregation. As a bonus if they memorize ALL of Ephesians 1 they will receive a trophy. (ALSO, the PRESCHOOL verses and Bible words will remain the same. This means that all Beginners, Cubbies, PreK and Kindergarten kids will receive a ribbon and a prize when they say their verses or Bible words.)
