Kingdom Trenches - Pastor George Furman, June 24/25, 2017

Acts 14:21-22 - After preaching the Good News in Derbe and making many disciples, Paul and Barnabas returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch of Pisidia, where they strengthened the believers. They encouraged them to continue in the faith, reminding them that we must suffer many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God.

  1. Their mission was to make disciples.  [Matthew 28:18-20]
  2. It’s always been the heart of God that people would turn from their sins and be saved.  [Ezekiel 33:11, 2 Peter 3:9, 1 Timothy 2:4]
  3. Our primary ministry efforts must be externally focused. [Matthew 28:18-20]
  4. When a local church focuses too much inwardly – it sadly begins to decline.
  5. Everyone in the kingdom has disciple-making in their job description. [Acts 1:8, Romans 10:14-15]
  6. Strengthening other believers is part of the disciple-making process. [1Thessalonians 5:11]
  7. We were never meant to live the Christian life in isolation. [Hebrews 10:25]
  8. Kingdom life and suffering often go hand-in-hand. [John 16:33, 2 Corinthians 6:4]
  9. Jesus never offered us an easy way. [Matthew 10:22, 16:24, 2 Timothy 3:12]
  10. It’s through suffering and trials that God does some of His best work in us.  [Psalm 119:71, 1 Peter 5:10, James 1:2-4].
  11. Suffering and trials can either draw us closer to God - or distance us from Him. [James 1:12]
